Peggy
is our beginner’s instructor. She is uniquely caring and kind and
you will find her a pleasure to work with.
"As a teacher of beginner and early intermediate horseback
lessons, I want my students to be accomplished horsemen as well as
riders. On the ground, a beginner must learn to halter, groom, and
tack up his own horse. He must also learn how to maneuver himself and
his horse safely in a busy barn, and to recognize discomfort or anxiety
in his horse.
On the horse's back, the most important things for
a new rider to learn are good posture and balance. With these, he
can communicate with his horse without unbidden interference
from clutching, bumping, or bracy arms, legs, or seat. When
his balance and posture are good, he should develop his ability to
feel when, where, and how to give his cues. He must learn to adjust his
cues to the temperament and current attitude of his horse, so that the
horse both respects and trusts him. Nothing is more pleasant for a
rider than to be relaxed and effective on a relaxed and responsive
horse!"
